Sponsor an Aged Person
The culture of India with regards to elderly people varies across the different states. In some states, aged people are revered and live with their children who look after them in their old age. In other areas, once they are old and unable to work, their children can move away, leaving their ageing relatives destitute. If they have no family, there is no welfare state so, like children, the aged person will be forced to beg. The Mission for the Rural People runs a small elderly persons home, accommodating up to 10 people.
It is possible to sponsor an aged person. Just £15 a month provides food, accommodation, and healthcare. The elderly often require medication which can be obtained by Ratnam who, in addition to his duties as Head of the Orphanage, is also a qualified pharmacist.
